The New Zealand Conservation trust offer a range of engaging education programmes for preschools, schools, community groups and more that inspire a deeper understanding of native species and empower participants to take positive action for biodiversity.

Kiwi Korero Talk
Our Kiwi Korero Talk brings our story with one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most iconic and threatened taonga directly to the classroom. Learn all about our mahi alongside Willowbank Wildlife Reserve with this treasured birds.
Participants have the rare opportunity to see and learn from our taxidermy kiwi and introduced predators up close, we even bring along a real kiwi egg!! During our talk we explore kiwi biology and behavior, the impact of introduced predators, and the work being done to protect kiwi, including our involvement in Operation Nest Egg.
Participants learn how eggs and chicks are carefully raised in safe environments before being returned to the wild, and how this work, alongside predator control and habitat protection, is helping to secure the future of kiwi populations.
We tailor our 1hr long session to suit the audience, whether it’s early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools, community groups, or residents in retirement villages.

Travelling Tuatara Visit
Our Travelling Tuatara Programme brings one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most extraordinary taonga directly to the classroom, creating unforgettable learning experiences that inspire care for our native wildlife.
At the heart of the Travelling Tuatara Programme is connection. Seeing a live tuatara in person sparks curiosity, empathy, and a deeper respect for native species. Our presentations are designed to be engaging, age-appropriate, and interactive, encouraging participants to ask questions and think critically about conservation.
We tailor our 1hr long session to suit the audience, whether it’s early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools, community groups, or residents in retirement villages.
Cost: $4 per person
Please note this price only applies to schools/organisations within a 30 km radius of Willowbank Wildlife Reserve. Mileage will be charged at the AA recommended rate for visits outside this area.

Jnr Predator Controller Talk
Our Jnr Predator Controller talks cover what is a native species vrs an introduced species, as well as why predator trapping is so important. Participants will learn why we lay tracking tunnels before placing traps in an area, and all the different types of traps and what they are for.
Have fun clearing some mock tracking tunnels and guessing what species left their track - afterwards you can check a mock trap line and work out what predators we have “caught”.
Our predator talks can be carried out either in the classroom our at one of our trapline sites in Christchurch.
We can tailor this session for a 1hr or 2hr talk and to suit the audience, whether it’s early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools, community groups, or residents in retirement villages.
