Our Current Projects

  • Carlyle Valley

A steep-sided valley covered in beech forest, the Carlyle Valley is a picturesque area in the eastern northern reaches of Lake Sumner Forest Park, close to Lewis Pass.

Trust volunteers started predator control there in 2017 to protect its birdlife.

  • The Styx River – Puharakekenui

In 2020, NZ Conservation Trust volunteers began setting up predator traplines along the Styx River in Styx Mill Conservation Reserve and Radcliffe Road Reserve. The Trust’s trapping network along the Styx has since been expanded to include the Sheppards Stream and Janet Stewart Reserves.

  • Mt Richardson

Mt Richardson, part of the Mt Thomas forest, is situated 60km west of Christchurch near Oxford. The area has both easy forest loop tracks and steep climbs up to the tops with views to Christchurch and the Southern Alps.

Our Past Projects

  • Cass Valley

In 2018, New Zealand Conservation Trust volunteers set up a trap line in the Cass Valley (between Craigieburn Forest Park and Bealey Spur). The line currently consists of 32 DOC200 traps and is managed by bach holders in the area.

  • Craigieburn Forest Park

Craigieburn Forest Park is a beautiful area covered mountain beech forest and high country tussock land.

The Trust partnered with Canterbury Environmental Trust in 2006 to set up a network of traplines in the Craigieburn Forest Park and Castle Hill.
